IVAN’S GUPPIES: CAPTURING THE APPLICATION OF GUPPY GENETICS

Embark on a journey into the world of guppy genetics! This website chronicles my selective breeding project, focused on unraveling the genetic mysteries of Snow-White guppies and their unique traits. My initial objective is to create a stable line of Snow-White guppies that reliably breed true. To begin, I performed four deliberate outcrosses using distinctly different guppy strains. This starting point allows me to explore various breeding techniques and learn about the inheritance of genes that contribute to the Snow-White appearance.

Building upon my first objective, my second goal is to infuse my Snow-White line with a striking trait that emerged in Cross 8: an intensely iridescent forehead. I'm particularly interested in understanding how this forehead iridescence is genetically passed down. Ultimately, I want to breed Snow-White guppies that consistently exhibit this iridescent forehead, creating a more intensely iridescent topside.

For my third objective, I'm undertaking a potentially challenging cross: transferring halfblack red rose characteristics to my Snow-White guppy line. I particularly admire the halfmoon tail and high fin dorsal of red roses and want to incorporate these features. The magenta gene present in Snow-Whites may make this difficult, or even impossible, but I'm eager to explore the possibilities and learn from the attempt.
